Daniel Arsham a construit son style sur la base de trois expériences.
Il est né daltonien et, très tôt dans sa carrière, ses oeuvres sont restées monochromes. Partant de nuances allant du noir au blanc, il s’est peu à peu aventuré dans la couleur grâce à des verres lui permettant de voir des teintes plus variées.
C’est en faisant le rencontre de Merce Cunningham qu’il s’initie au design architectural en construisant les décors de scène des spectacles du grand chorégraphe.
Enfin, c’est un voyage sur l’Île de Pâques qui lui fait découvrir des vestiges archéologiques et l’inspire pour développer son oeuvre et ses installations autour de la perception du temps. Cette terre volcanique a orienté ses sculptures vers des matériaux tels que le cristal, la cendre ou différents minéraux et gemmes.

Daniel Arsham built his style on three experiences.
He was born colorblind and, very early in his career, his works remained monochrome. Starting from shades going from black to white, he has gradually ventured into color thanks to glasses allowing him to see more varied shades.
It is by meeting Merce Cunningham that he got initiated to architectural design by constructing the sets of the stage of the great choreographer’s shows.
Finally, a trip to Easter Island allowed him to discover archaeological remains and inspired him to develop his work and installations around the perception of time. This volcanic land has oriented his sculpture towards materials such as crystal, ash or different minerals and gems.

Daniel Arsham est un artiste américain connu pour ses sculptures faites de cristaux et ses manipulations d’éléments architecturaux. Né à Cleveland, c’est à Miami qu’il passe la majorité de son enfance. Repéré très tôt comme un dessinateur talentueux, il entre alors en école spécialisée et pratique beaucoup la photographie. Cette époque sera marquée par l’ouragan Andrew qui occasionnera de nombreuses destructions dans la région, et notamment celle de sa maison. Ces événements le conduiront à s’intéresser à l’architecture qui occupe encore aujourd’hui une grande place dans son travail.

Daniel Arsham is an American artist known for his sculptures made of crystals and manipulations of architectural elements. Born in Cleveland, he spent most of his childhood in Miami. Spotted very early as a talented draftsman, he then enters a specialized school and practices a lot of photography. This time will be marked by the hurricane Andrew which will cause many destructions in the region, and in particular his family’s house. These events will lead him to gain interest for architecture that still occupies a large place in his work today.

Wolfgang Laib évoque l’étendue de sa vision de l’art qui pour lui n’est pas simplement une question de couleurs ou de peinture. Inspiré par des artistes comme Brancusi ou Jakob Brackle et par la philosophie asiatique, son art aborde l’équilibre entre le temporel et l’intemporel, entre le fragile et l’éternel. Pour Laib rien ne remplace l’expérience de la vie qu’il faut embrasser corps et âme. C’est ce qu’il conseille aux jeunes artistes qui pour lui ne doivent pas s’enfermer en école d’art.

Wolfgang Laib evokes the extent of his vision of art which for him is not simply a question of colors or painting. Inspired by artists like Brancusi or Jakob Brackle and by Asian philosophy, his art approaches the balance between the temporal and the timeless, the fragile and the eternal. For Laib nothing replaces the experience of life that must be embraced body and soul. This is what he advises to young artists who for him should not be caught up in art schools.

Passionné de philosophie asiatique, ses parents lui font découvrir l’art tantrique et l’emmènent en Inde. C’est après ce voyage qu’il réalise son premier oeuf en granit noir, un Brahmanda, et qu’il décide qu’il sera artiste et non docteur.

Wolfgang Laib is an artist whose practice is inextricable in his modest and hermetic way of life. Son of doctor, he began studying medicine. Passionate about Asian philosophy, his parents made him discover tantric art and took him to India. It is after this journey that he realizes its first egg in black granite, a Brahmanda, and decides that he will become an artist and not a doctor.

L’artiste chilien Iván Navarro présente sa dernière exposition à Paris. FANFARE se tient à la galerie Daniel Templon du 1 mars au 7 mai 2017.

Passionné de musique depuis son adolescence, il assistait à des concerts clandestins sous le régime de Pinochet. Ces actes de rébellion sont pour lui la plus belle manifestation de résistance. Il se met à collectionner les enregistrements de l’époque et produira plus tard certains de ces groupes undergrounds avec son label Hueso Records. Dans Fanfare, Navarro présente un ensemble d’installations avec des tambours, dont la première pièce “Drums” a été réalisée en 2009. L’exposition bat au son de chants révolutionnaires d’amérique latine et d’ailleurs dont l’artiste, connu pour son art fait de néon et de lampes fluorescentes, collectionne les vinyles.

Chilean artist Iván Navarro presents his latest exhibition in Paris. FANFARE is held at the Daniel Templon Gallery from March 1 to May 7, 2017.

Passionate about music since his teenage years, he attended clandestine concerts under the Pinochet regime. These acts of rebellion are for him the most beautiful manifestation of resistance. He began collecting recordings of that time and later produced some of these underground bands with his label Hueso Records. In Fanfare, Navarro presents a set of installations with drums, the first of which “Drums” was made in 2009. The exhibition beats to the sound of revolutionary songs from Latin America and elsewhere whose artist, known for his Neon and fluorescent lamps art, collects vinyl.
