Artists are interpreters of the reality that surrounds them. A reality that is changing more or less fast. Chinese Yu Hong, who has been painting since the 80โs, is one of the great witnesses of the changes in her country. From the changes of the women conditions that are released from the traditional family pattern to the pressure on young people running to catch an economic train without brakes. Also art teacher, she takes the pulse of successive generations sometimes melancholy, sometimes torn by a society that must sometimes do the split between tradition and modernity. In her later paintings, there are matters about time and escape. “China needs to slow down, to take care of everyone and show concern for the changes in peopleโs lives in this fast-developping society. Because the situation changes so fast, we donโt even pay attention to life. We should slow down and be aware of what is actually happening.”
