L’artiste américain Tristan Eaton présente sa première exposition solo en Europe. Uprise est présentée à la Galerie Itinerrance du 9 juin au 8 juillet 2017.

Tristan Eaton est né en L.A en 1978, il a découvert le graffiti quand il était adolescent à Londres où ses parents avaient déménagés. Issu du skate, il a également été introduit au comics et aux illustrateurs subversifs britanniques qui sont toujours une influence dans son travail d’aujourd’hui.

Uprise est une histoire visuelle de protestation et de résistance. À l’ère de Donald Trump, du racisme croissant, de la xénophobie et des violations flagrantes des droits de l’homme dans le monde entier, Tristan Eaton espère un monde meilleur et au besoin de jeter hors du pouvoir ceux qui ne le méritent pas. Uprise est un regard sur l’histoire humaine qui montre comment les impuissants ont renversé les puissants et comment le petit peuple peut vaincre le tyran avec une protestation pacifique et le pouvoir des idées.

Tristan Eaton was born in L.A in 1978, he discovered graffiti when he was a teenager in London where his parents moved. Having a background in skate he was also introduced to comic books and to the subversive British illustrators that are still an influence in his work today.

Uprise is a visual history of protest and resistance. In the age of Donald Trump, rising racism and xenophobia and blatant human rights violations across the globe, Tristan Eaton hopes for a better world and a need to throw out of power those who don’t deserve it. Uprise is a look back on human history that shows how the powerless have risen to topple the powerful and how the little man can vanquish tyrants with peaceful protest and the power of ideas.

L’artiste chilien Iván Navarro présente sa dernière exposition à Paris. FANFARE se tient à la galerie Daniel Templon du 1 mars au 7 mai 2017.

Passionné de musique depuis son adolescence, il assistait à des concerts clandestins sous le régime de Pinochet. Ces actes de rébellion sont pour lui la plus belle manifestation de résistance. Il se met à collectionner les enregistrements de l’époque et produira plus tard certains de ces groupes undergrounds avec son label Hueso Records. Dans Fanfare, Navarro présente un ensemble d’installations avec des tambours, dont la première pièce “Drums” a été réalisée en 2009. L’exposition bat au son de chants révolutionnaires d’amérique latine et d’ailleurs dont l’artiste, connu pour son art fait de néon et de lampes fluorescentes, collectionne les vinyles.

Passionate about music since his teenage years, he attended clandestine concerts under the Pinochet regime. These acts of rebellion are for him the most beautiful manifestation of resistance. He began collecting recordings of that time and later produced some of these underground bands with his label Hueso Records. In Fanfare, Navarro presents a set of installations with drums, the first of which “Drums” was made in 2009. The exhibition beats to the sound of revolutionary songs from Latin America and elsewhere whose artist, known for his Neon and fluorescent lamps art, collects vinyl.

Le photographe Roger Ballen présente l’exposition qu’il a conçu avec le peintre et dessinateur néerlandais Hans Lemmen. UNLEASHED se tient au Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature du 7 mars au 4 juin 2017.

Ces deux artistes sur leur support respectif traitent depuis toujours des rapports entre l’homme et l’animal. Dans cette exposition, Roger Ballen et Hans Lemmen collaborent pour faire fusionner leur travail. Lemmen réinterprète les photos de Ballen en y ajoutant des dessins et peintures tandis que Ballen découpe les dessin de Lemmen pour les coller sur ses photos. Il en résulte un travail unique et inédit. L’exposition débute par une installation créée par les deux artistes et se termine par un documentaire de Saskia Vredeveld sur cette collaboration.

These two artists on their respective supports have always dealt with the relationship between man and animal. In this exhibition, Roger Ballen and Hans Lemmen collaborate to merge their work. Lemmen reinterprets the pictures of Ballen by adding drawings and paintings while Ballen cut out the drawings of Lemmen to paste them in his photos. The result is a unique and unpublished work. The exhibition begins with an installation created by the two artists and ends with a documentary by Saskia Vredeveld on this collaboration.

L’artiste américain Augustine Kofie présente sa troisième exposition solo à Paris. BUILD FROM MEMORY se tient à la Galerie Openspace du 25 février au 1er avril 2017.

Autodidacte issu de l’illustration et du graffiti qu’il a exercé plus de 20 ans, Kofie a poussé son art jusqu’à l’abstraction. Partant des lettrages qu’il déconstruit et déstructure, il créée des toiles abstraites, sortes de constructivisme urbain notamment à partir de matériaux et vieux documents récupérés. Dans Build From Memory, il rend hommage à toutes ses années pendant lesquelles il a développé son style aussi inspiré du dessin industriel et qualifié de Graffuturisme.

American artist Augustine Kofie presents his third solo exhibition in Paris. BUILD FROM MEMORY is shown at Galerie Openspace from February 25th to April 1st 2017.

Self-taught artist coming from illustration and graffiti he practiced for more than 20 years, Kofie has pushed his art to abstraction. Starting from the letters he deconstructs and destructures, he creates abstract paintings, sort of urban constructivism built from found materials and old documents. In Build From Memory, he pays tribute to all his years in which he developed his style also inspired by industrial design and called Graffuturism.

L’artiste américain Cleon Peterson présente sa première exposition solo à Paris. VICTORY se tient à la Galerie du Jour du 12 janvier au 18 février 2017.

Toujours fasciné par la violence, la brutalité et l’exercice du pouvoir entre les puissants et les marginaux ; l’artiste nous met face à une réalité qu’il a connu et qu’il observe encore. Son exposition résonne avec force au regard de l’actualité politique et sociétale aux Etats-Unis comme dans le monde.

«Cette exposition explore les triomphes hédonistes de ceux qui se reconnaissent comme victorieux dans le miroir du cours de l’histoire. Leur accession au plaisir dépend de leur projection de douleur sur le vaincu, ou l’expression courante du plaisir que l’on tire du malheur des autres. Alors que les vainqueurs font étalage de leur arrogance et remportent leurs trophées, les perdants sont considérés comme insignifiants et marginalisés. L’exposition VICTORY raconte la victoire d’un homme sur un autre, à quoi ressemble cette victoire, et les effets qu’elle exerce sur les perdants».

Always fascinated by violence, brutality and the exercise of power between the powerful and the marginalized; the artist puts us in front of a reality he experienced and still observes. His exhibition resonates with force today in the light of the political and societal situation in the United States as in the world.

“This show explores the hedonistic triumphs of those who recognize themselves as victorious in the unfolding mirror of history. Their right to pleasure hinges on their projection of pain onto the unvictorious other. This often expresses itself in pleasure derived from the misfortune of the defeated. As the winners display their hubris and take their trophies the losers are left insignificant and marginalized. VICTORY explores one man’s victory over another, what that victory looks like and the result that victory has on the losers.”
